Meet Colton · District 30

I’ve built my life on showing up and owning the outcome.

Hickman resident. U.S. military veteran. Nebraska small-business owner. Running for the Nebraska Unicameral to represent Legislative District 30.

Who I am

A neighbor in Hickman — not a stranger to hard work.

I’m Colton J. Porter — a U.S. military veteran, the founder of a Nebraska security and technology company, and a Hickman resident. I live in Legislative District 30, among the farm towns and growing communities of Gage County and southeast Lancaster County.

I built that business the way I’d want our state run: answer the phone yourself, tell people the truth, keep your prices and your promises transparent, and never pass the buck when something goes wrong.

The path here

Service → business → decision to run

A short timeline of what shaped this campaign — only what we can stand behind.

  1. Service

I served in the U.S. military. That experience taught me to show up, finish the job, and put the mission — and the people next to you — ahead of ego.

  2. Building a Nebraska business

I founded a Nebraska security and technology company. Owning a small business means meeting payroll, keeping promises, and answering for mistakes yourself — the same habits I want in Lincoln.

  3. Seeing the problems up close

Living and working in District 30, I hear what neighbors carry: pressure on farm families and Main Streets, roads and infrastructure that need attention, schools and workforce pathways that matter, and a hunger for government that publishes clear books and owns results.

  4. Choosing to run

Nebraska has the only nonpartisan, one-house Legislature in the country — built to put people and ideas ahead of party games. I’m running for the Nebraska Unicameral to represent Legislative District 30 and protect that: show up in every town, listen more than I talk, and fight for the families, farmers, and small businesses who make this district work.

Why I’m running

District first. People over party.

This campaign is about Legislative District 30 — Beatrice, Hickman, Wymore, Adams, southeast Lincoln, and every town in between. It is not about national slogans or party theater. It is about neighbors who deserve a legislator who drives the miles, answers the phone, and measures success by whether life gets more workable here.

We have a long runway to the 2030 ballot. That time is for listening, organizing, and earning trust — not shouting. If you want the policy detail, start with the priorities. If you want to help, volunteer or request a yard sign. Confirmed meetups land on Events.
